Escape Games: Hints and Tips

So, you may have booked an escape room and you need to make sure you have a reasonable chance of winning. Well, you’ve come to the right place, because today we’re going to be talking about hints and tips to winning at escape games.

The Longest or Maybe The Shortest Hour Of Your Life

An hour isn’t long, and it feels like it goes by a lot quicker if you’re going against the clock. In an escape room you have 60 minutes in which to escape, and that can seem pretty daunting. Adrenaline is working hard and that’s going to leave you feeling stressed. However, although it’s okay to have some adrenaline going, it’s not okay to get so het up it interferes with your ability to enjoy yourself. So, what we say is this – keep a level head, don’t waste precious time getting so stressed out you can’t think straight.

Clues – But, Where Are They?

Yes, the clues are a major part of the escape room game and it’s therefore important you pay attention to them. Keep in mind that some clues might be right under your nose. Keep your eyes peeled then because clues can be anywhere, and if you don’t feel you’re making any progress, get your team mates to help you, that’s what they’re there for. You didn’t go into this alone, you went in as part of a team so make use of them.

Mr or Mrs Dominant

That’s not to say that you allow one person to dominate the whole thing entirely. That’s definitely a big fat no-no. There’s a big difference between being an assertive and thoughtful leader to being a loud and quite frankly obnoxious individual who has to take over just about everything. Ideas and clues are there to be shared as part of the team, don’t let one person dominate it and spoil it for everyone else.

Ask For a Hint If You’re Stuck, Don’t Just Carry On Struggling

If you find yourself stuck, ask for help, there are hints you can ask for and there’s no shame in asking for them. If you stubbornly refuse to engage and say honestly that you’re struggling with this whole thing, then you’re potentially wasting precious time. Hints are there for a reason – to help, and they can save you time. Of course, you’d like to solve all the problems by yourself along with your team, but if you really are struggling then why not just ask for a hint? If you’ve used up so much time stuck on one or two clues, you may have left yourself with only a few minutes left to escape, use that time wisely and ask for some help.
