Christmas is near and if you’re looking for things to do in Newcastle this festive season you’ll want to indulge yourself in Christmas markets. Here at Escape we’ve put together a guide to what Newcastle has to offer, so you don’t have to do the hard work yourself, all you’ll have to do is enjoy yourself.
Christmas markets really help to get you in the mood for Christmas, and Newcastle’s market is no exception. All the traditional things are here such as mulled wine, stalls of potential gifts and delicious food. There’s some great local crafts here and you’ll be inundated with some unique Christmas gift ideas. Newcastle market starts 11th December and continues until 17th December so don’t miss it.
As well as ice skating and Christmas lights Newcastle’s markets really are impressive. And there’s an international flavour to them as well so not only will you be able to find local produce and locally crafted gifts, you’ll also be able to find ones from all over the world too! Think gourmet ingredients with traditional snacks from Europe, such as paella from Spain, and currywurst from Germany and a host of other well-known foods.
International Christmas Market
The International Christmas Market starts November 17th and will continue until December 10.th Want to know where to find it? It’ll be held on Grey and Grainger streets at Grey’s Monument. So, make sure you slot in some time to go. It’ll be full of atmosphere, with an opportunity to try foods from around the world you may never have heard of before and some you’re familiar with. If you’re looking to get some gifts and to give yourself some Christmas cheer, then either one of these fabulous markets will do the job nicely.
The German Village
There’s also the German Village which you’ll find at Hadrian’s Tipi on Pilgrim Street and this is on until January 7th, so there’ plenty of time for you to fit it in. There’s food, drink and gifts and prices are reasonable. Entrance is free and there’s all sorts of delicious foods to be had. As well as German fayre there’s wraps, burgers, crepes and other beverages including mulled wine.
